About Toe Blake

Toe Blake was born in Victoria, British Columbia, in 1909. He began his NHL career with the Montreal Maroons in 1930. After the Maroons folded in 1938, Blake joined the Canadiens, where he would spend the rest of his career.

As a player, Blake was a five-time Stanley Cup champion. He was also a member of the Hockey Hall of Fame. After retiring as a player, Blake became the Canadiens' coach in 1948. He coached the Canadiens for 13 seasons, winning eight Stanley Cups.

Blake was known for his tough but fair coaching style. He was also a master motivator. His players loved him, and they would do anything for him.

Blake retired from coaching in 1968. He remained with the Canadiens as a scout and advisor until his death in 1995.
